Anthony Leach, 1982 M.Music, 1996 Ph.D. Music Education

Anthony Leach is a professor of music and music education at Penn State. A native of Washington, D.C., he taught choral and general music for fourteen years in Maryland, New York City, and Pennsylvania prior to joining the School of Music faculty in 1994. At Penn State, Dr. Leach teaches graduate courses in music education and conducts Essence of Joy, and was honored to serve as Penn State Laureate during the 2009-10 academic year. He is also the conductor of the Essenceof Joy Alumni Singers and Essence 2, a community choir in State College, Pennsylvania. In addition, he is artist-in-residence at New Bethel Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. Choirs under his direction have performed in festivals, competitions, and tours of the United States, Canada, Europe, and South Africa. He has served as guest conductor for choral festivals in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Kentucky, Nebraska, Utah, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Florida, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C. He has adjudicated choral festivals in the United States and Canada.
