Center for the Performing Arts Partners on Dance Camp with McCann School of Art

The Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State is partnering with the C. Barton McCann School of Art to present Dancing with Rioult Stars, a youth dance camp that allows participants to study with professional dancers from New York City-based Rioult (re-YOU). The camp—for boys and girls ages 9 to 12—is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily Aug. 2 through 6 at the McCann School, located near Whipple Dam State Park. Activities include a modern technique class and a repertory workshop. Participants will learn movement phrases from Small Steps, Tiny Revolutions, one of the works Rioult is scheduled to perform in October at Penn State’s Eisenhower Auditorium. Camp tuition is $195. An open audition at 10 a.m. Aug. 7 in Eisenhower gives camp participants and other central Pennsylvania youngsters a chance to earn a role in Rioult’s October performance at the Center for the Performing Arts. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity, and equally delighted to be partnering with the McCann School of Art, using their gorgeous facilities for the camp,” said Amy Dupain Vashaw, audience and program development director at the Center for the Performing Arts. “It's really easy to get there, the kids will have a blast, learn something along the way and possibly perform with a New York City-based company.” Rioult showcases the choreography of Pascal Rioult, a former member of the Martha Graham Dance Company.
