Workshops for Adults:
~ Appliqué by Hand, Saturday, July 21, noon
In this workshop, participants will study examples of appliqué and learn the process of stitching cut and shaped pieces of fabric onto larger textile blocks. Workshop led by quiltmaker Kimberly Davis. Participants must purchase a $10 packet of materials from the instructor.
~ Go Crazy for Quilting!, Saturday, August 4, noon
“Crazy quilts” are defined by the sewing of assorted fabrics into asymmetrical designs in order to create an irregular patchwork. Under the guidance of quilt maker Kimberly Davis, participants will view crazy quilts in the Terasaki Collection, and then hand sew a crazy-quilt block that can be used as a quilt square or pillow top. Participants must purchase a $15 packet of materials from the instructor.

In this workshop led by Samantha Nolte, art educator, children will view a number of works from the summer exhibition, American Quilts from the Terasaki Collection. College of Arts and Architecture All-College Meeting
In order to avoid conflicts with classes, the All-College meeting will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center, beginning at 8:15 a.m. with a continental breakfast. The meeting will begin at 8:45 a.m. and will conclude with a luncheon starting at 11:45 a.m. The luncheon will end at 1:00 p.m. All new faculty and staff will be introduced, along with the most recent class of new tenured and promoted faculty members. College offices may be closed so all faculty and staff have the opportunity to attend the meeting.
Please note, the breakfast and meeting will be held in President’s Hall 1 and 2; and the lunch will be held in Dean’s Hall 1 and 2.

College’s Staff Advisory Council Seeks Nominations for Staff Recognition Award
The college’s Staff Advisory Council is seeking nominations for the Staff Special Recognition Award for the summer semester. The award recognizes individuals who went above and beyond their routine work to complete a task or assist someone. The recipient will be recognized at the next All-College Meeting following the awarding semester.
Recipients are to be chosen with majority vote by the A&A Staff Advisory Council. This semester’s deadline date for submitting a nomination is Friday, August 17. For thesummer 2012 nomination form, visit http://artsandarchitecture.psu.edu/staff/sac-special-recognition-form.
Lunch & Learn: Clickers in the Classroom
Faculty and staff interested in the use of student response systems, or clickers, are invited to register for a free "Lunch & Learn: Clickers in the Classroom--Pedagogical Best Practices" workshop to be held Wednesday, July 25, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 108 Sackett Building. The speaker will be Dan Keefer, chair of the Department of Wellness and Sport Sciences and associate professor at Millersville University. Faculty and Teaching Assistants to Explore Technologies for Teaching During Summer-Fest
Faculty, instructors, and graduate students are invited to participate in a free workshop during Summer-Fest session developed to target technology as it relates to pedagogy and research. Sessions are scheduled to take place during the week before the start of fall semester (August 13-17). The workshop will highlight the ways instructors at Penn State are using technology to enhance classes and put innovative teaching ideas into practice. Madhuri Desai, assistant professor of art history, and Kelema Moses, Ph.D. candidate in art history, have contributed chapters to the book, Colonial Frames, Nationalist Histories: Imperial Legacies, Architecture, and Modernity, Mrinalini Rajagopalan and Madhuri Desai, eds., (Ashgate, 2012), 336 pages.
