Edwin W. Zoller Gallery Showcases Saturday Art School Exhibition

Saturday Art School Exhibition

The Penn State School of Visual Arts’ Saturday School Exhibition opens at the Edwin W. Zoller Gallery Wednesday, November 20, and will be on view through Saturday, November 23. The exhibition showcases works of art produced by 140 students ages 4 -18 enrolled in classes taught by advanced Art Education majors under the direction of faculty and graduate assistants over a period of eight weeks.   Free and open to the public, a closing reception at the gallery will be held Saturday, November 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with light refreshments being served.

 

Saturday School Art classes encourage students to explore ideas and issues through contemporary and traditional art media and experiences specifically designed for students at each age/grade level from preschool through adolescence. Classes are offered in Fall and Spring semesters and meet Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in studio classrooms throughout the School of Visual Arts buildings on Penn State campus.

 

This fall, student teachers that worked with Preschool-Kindergarten students include, Brittany Gibson & Jackie Settimio; Lower Elementary, Danielle Allison & Jenna Eiker; Middle Elementary, Leah Ellert & Jessica Grentz; Upper Elementary, Sarah Fogg & Ashley Renfrew; Middle School, Samantha Bachman & Dalton Kendrick; and High School, Kelsey Shields and Brooks Anderson. Working with the student teachers as mentors were graduate teaching assistants Sue Uhlig, Natalia Pilato, Amy Migliore, and Jessica Kee.

 

For those interested in enrollment for future Saturday Art School classes, registration forms are mailed to parents two to three weeks prior to the start of class. The Edwin W. Zoller Gallery is a non-profit exhibition space dedicated to the advancement of the visual arts and is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. during Fall and Spring semesters. Zoller Gallery was founded in 1971 and is located in the Visual Arts Building off Curtin Road adjoining the Palmer Museum of Art on the University Park campus. Public programming at Zoller includes artist lectures, visual art performances, artist residencies and interdisciplinary events. This facility was named for Edwin W.
