Saxophonist Andre Jamaal North, a second-year master of music student and graduate teaching assistant, was named the winner of the Young Artist Competition in the woodwind category at the Music Teachers National Association's Pennsylvania State Competition on October 28, 2012. Andre played a program including works by Jules Demersseman, Fernande Decruck, Christian Lauba and Lars-Erik Larsson. The Young Artist Competition was judged by Stacey Steele and Terry Steele, both faculty members at Slippery Rock University.
