Jared McKnight, a fourth-year architecture student and president of the Penn State chapter of the American Institute for Architecture Students (AIAS), has received the 2009 AIAS Outstanding Chapter President Honor Award.

McKnight has been president of the Penn State chapter since fall 2008, and was secretary of the organization the previous year. According to a letter from Deana Moore, AIAS National Vice President and 2009 Honors Awards Chair, "The jury believed that [Jared's] submission was outstanding. Not only was it well organized and detailed, but it gave the jury insight into who [he is] as a person, not just on paper."

Jared spent summer 2009 working as an intern at The Design Alliance Architects in Pittsburgh. During summer 2007 and 2008, he was an intern at Geoffrey Mouen Architects in Celebration, Fla. A Schreyer Scholar at Penn State, he is double-majoring in architecture and international studies, with minors in architectural history and French. McKnight is a member of the Schreyer Honors College Student Council and the Lion Ambassadors, Penn State's student alumni corps. He is also a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honors Society and the recipient of several scholarships and design honors.

McKnight will receive his award at the AIAS Forum in Minneapolis, December 29, 2009–January 1, 2010.
