The curatorial team that Dr. William Dewey (associate professor of art history and director of the African Studies Program, Penn State) has been working with at UCLA’s Fowler Museum has received a NEH grant in support of the upcoming major exhibition, Striking Iron: The Art of African Blacksmiths.  
Dr. Dewey presented a paper, “Swazi Headrests: Remembered Past or New Political Strategy?”, at Power and Visual Culture, the Annual Conference of the South African Visual Art Historians, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, September 10-12, 2015.
Dr. Madhuri Desai, associate professor of art history and Asian studies, presented a lecture, “Temple Architecture and Archaic Knowledge in South Asia,” as a part of the India in Focus festival sponsored by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, September 25, 2015:
Dr. Nancy Locke, associate professor of art history, was an invited participant in the “Caillebotte Study Day” at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. Held in conjunction with the exhibition Gustave Caillebotte: The Painter’s Eye, the conference included a session called “Urban Photography,” led by Dr. Locke in the Print Study Room on September 29, 2015.
Dr. Wanda Knight, associate professor of art education, will give the keynote address at Regional Arts Education Day at Manchester Craftsmen's Guild on October 12.  The event is presented by the Arts Education Collaborative.
Dr. Anthony Cutler, Evan Pugh University Professor of Art History:
- presented a lecture on "Looking for the Exotic in Byzantium and Early Islam” at Bryn Mawr College, Byrn Mawr, Pennsylvania, October 1, 2015
- willl present a lecture on "Inhabited Architecture:  A Pervasive Motif in Medieval Art and Modern Theory" at Tufts University, Medford/Somerville, Massachusetts, October 21, 2015
- will present a paper, "The Madrid Pantokrator and Some Larger Problems in Middle Byzantine Art,” at the Annual Byzantine Studies Conference, New York City, October 23, 2015

Dr. Amara Solari, associate professor of art history and anthropology, will be chairing a panel, “Mapping Indigenous and European Landscapes in the Long Sixteenth Century,” and presenting a paper, “The Coat of Arms of Yucat√°n: Visualizing Colonial Maya Ethnic Identity,” at the American Society of Ethnohistory Conference, Las Vegas, Nevada, November 5-8, 2015.

Sarah Daiker, M.A. candidate in art history, will be presenting a paper on “Architectural Representations and Topographic Designation in the Mosaics of Jordan, 6th-8th Centuries” at the Annual Byzantine Studies Conference, New York City, October 22-25, 2015.

Andrea Middleton, Ph.D. candidate in art history, will be presenting a paper on “A Shared Visual Vocabulary: Isis and Harpokrates, Mary and Jesus” at the Annual Byzantine Studies Conference, New York City, October 22-25, 2015.

Jiaran Song, a senior double majoring in art history and labor and employment relations, received a "Highly Commended" award from The University Awards, awarded at the UA Global Summit in Dublin, Ireland.
