The Woskob Family Gallery is delighted to present Open Range, a group exhibition collaboratively curated by members of the Tiger Strikes Asteroid (TSA) artist collective. Tiger Strikes Asteroid consists of artist-run spaces in Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Open Range explores landscape in its multifaceted meanings: a verb; an art historical genre; and a term used to describe natural environments, geographic constructions, and cultural climates. The curators—Carl Baratta (Los Angeles, CA), Rachael Gorchov (New York, NY) and Michelle Wasson (Chicago, IL) are practicing artists and TSA members who hail from across the United States. The artists featured in the exhibition include Holly Cahill, Vincent Como, Jackie Hoving, Esau Mcghee, Brian Porray, Kayla Romberger, Jonathan Ryan, and Ricky Yanas.
The exhibition will be installed at the gallery by Penn State alum (BFA 2003) and TSA founder, Alex Paik. During his visit to campus, Paik will also meet with students from the College of Arts and Architecture and give a public lecture about his work at the Palmer Museum of Art. All events are free and open to the public.
Tiger Strikes Asteroid provides opportunities for mid-career artists to expand their roles beyond studio practice to act as curators, critics, and community developers. The makers included in this show engage a variety of artistic practices, including painting, installations, photography, drawing, and mixed media. Tiger Strikes Asteroid has been featured in The New York Times, Hyperallergic, Art F City, The Huffington Post and Beautiful Decay. For more information please visit www.tigerstrikesasteroid.com.
