Two staff members are being honored with the Staff Award for Outstanding Service this spring: Karen B. Walk, staff assistant for the Penn State Blue Band, and Jeremy Warner, security/facility manager at the Palmer Museum of Art.
Walk has served as staff assistant for the Blue Band since 1987. In this role, she manages and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Penn State Athletics Bands Program, including the Blue Band, Pride of the Lions Basketball Pep Band, and fall athletic bands. Other duties include training and supervising Blue Band student officers and support staff, coordinating audition processes, serving as facility coordinator of the Blue Band Building, bookkeeping and budgeting for the bands program, and many others. She is recognized for her professionalism, positive attitude, outstanding people skills, attention to detail, and ability to juggle numerous tasks.
Warner began his career at the museum in 1996, serving as a part-time security guard while still a student. Following his graduation from Penn State in 2004, he was appointed coordinator of security and voluntarily took on the role of monitoring the museum’s facilities. His initiative led to an enhanced appearance, more efficient operations, and improved communication with other campus offices. In 2007 he was promoted to his current position, one he essentially created. Jeremy is recognized for his strong work ethic, dependability, positive outlook, and skill in handling projects of all types and sizes.
