Greetings from the College of Arts and Architecture! We hope you are enjoying just the right mix of relaxation, vacation, and family time during the summer months.
In just a few short weeks, our hallways will be bustling with students once again. There will be a palpable buzz in the air as the Penn State community embarks on a new semester. As usual, things have not been exactly quiet at Penn State during June and July. The College of Arts and Architecture continued to host several summer camps, including the first year of S.T.A.T.E. (School of Theatre Artistry and Technical Education), an intensive two-week musical theatre summer program for high school students. We also recently capped off successful weeks of the Honors Music Institute, School of Visual Arts Summer Camp, and Architecture and Landscape Architecture Camp.
Summer campers and students and families visiting the College of Arts and Architecture for New Student Orientation or Spend a Summer Day are encountering an Arts District under construction. The former Walters Courtyard has been cleared for the School of Music’s new recital hall, while renovation work has begun on Music Building I. The recital hall construction plans include a new courtyard and public space and we’re happy that many of the trees and shrubs removed from the old courtyard have already been replanted in other locations on campus. The project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2018.
We hope you enjoyed reading the 2017 edition of our college’s annual magazine, which hit mailboxes in early July. You may also access it online. If you are not on our mailing list and would like a copy, please send an email with your postal address to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If your fall plans include a visit to University Park, be sure to check our Arts Showcase calendar (available in late August) to see what performances, exhibitions, and lectures you can enjoy. Thanks, as always, for your support!
