The School of Music and the Central Pennsylvania Youth Orchestra will welcome the Orquestra Jovem Das Gerais on Thursday, Sept. 19, for a full day of activities, culminating in a public performance.
The collaboration begins at 10 a.m. with a viola masterclass offered by guest soloist Carlos Reis Aleixo. The masterclass occurs in 112 Music Building I and is open to the public. During the day, the Brazilian youth orchestra members will be hosted by members of the Central Pennsylvania Youth Orchestra and members of Penn State's Brazilian community, including a joint rehearsal, shared dinner and a visit to The Berkey Creamery.
The Orquestra Jovem Das Gerais will present a full concert at 7:30 p.m. in Esber Recital Hall. They will be joined on two pieces by members of the Central Pennsylvania Youth Orchestra. Soloists are Carlos Reis Aleixo (viola), Cenira Schreiber (piano) and Nabila Dandara (soprano). The Orquestra Jovem Das Gerais is conducted by Renato Almeida and Rosiane Reis.
